Former Dallas/ Fort Worth Broker Faces Five Years for Securities Fraud

September 15, 2015–Dallas, Texas

In a Press Release, the FBI reports that Wade Lawrence, 43, of Dallas faces up to five years in prison for securities fraud in connection with offering fraudulent high risk investments that promised investors returns of 20 to 100%. According to the press release, Lawrence pleaded guilty and must forfeit $1.5 million and faces fines of over $250,000.

In addition Lawrence agreed to forfeit over $1.5 million that was traceable to scheme. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Lawrence was formerly a stockbroker with Southwest Securities and prior to that worked for Oppenheimer & Co.  in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wade J. Lawrence, Former Fort Worth Broker Investigated by Rex Securities Law

Rex Securities Law is investigating Wade James Lawrence who was formerly a stock broker with Southwest Securities in Dallas, Texas, 8/2011-12/2013. Prior to that FINRA records indicate that he was registered with Oppenheimer & Co. in Fort Worth, Texas, 6/2008-7/2011.

His official FINRA records , which can be accessed here, show that:

  • Lawrence was permanently barred from the industry on 1/8/2014.
  • he resigned from Oppenheimer & Co. 7/22/2011 after a client alleged that he offered compensation for customer losses.
  • there are presently 6 customer disputes pending which seek damages ranging from $70,000 to over $2.8 million dollars . The claims include breach of fiduciary duty, gross negligence, unsuitable recommendations, unauthorized trading and failure to supervise on the part the firm where he was employed.

Wade James Lawrence -Former Southwest Securities Broker-Barred from Securities Industry

UPDATE February 13, 2015– Former investors with Wade J. Lawrence should see this recent posting regarding the investigation of Wade J. Lawrence. 

November 12 , 2014-Austin, Texas

FINRA barred  Wade James Lawrence of Austin, TX on January  8, 2015, from the securities industry.  According to FINRA records, Smith was registered with Southwest Securities  from 8/2011-12/2013. Prior to that Lawrence was registered with Oppenheimer & Co. from 6/2008-7/2011.

FINRA records indicate that several former customers of Lawrence  have filed complaints against him for mismanaging their accounts. Several have already been resolved with substantial settlement payments. There are several pending claims. One claim seeks damages of $1.4 million against Lawrence’s former firm Oppenheimer & Co. Another claim seeks $2.8 million against Lawrence’s former firm Southwest Securities for breach of contract, negligence, failure to supervise and unauthorized trading.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) publishes disciplinary actions involving stockbrokers and stock brokerage firms on a monthly and quarterly basis. That site may be accessed here.

Wade Lawrence-Lubbock, Texas–Lawsuit Filed Against Southwest Securities Broker

UPDATE February 13, 2015– Former investors with Wade J. Lawrence should see this recent posting regarding the investigation of Wade J. Lawrence. 

(12/8/2013)  -According to The Sandstorm Scholar an online news and editorial commentary that, according to the website, “favors policy over personality and principle over populism”, and serves Lubbock and West Texas, a lawsuit Larry K. Lowe vs. Wade J. Lawrence, has been filed at the Lubbock County Courthouse. Follow this for a link to the Sandstorm Scholar posting on that topic. Lubbockonline reports that there are two suits filed against Lawrence in the 237th District Court alleging that he failed to pay back $1 million in loans from two individuals. In addition to the suit brought by Lowe, James Morris, now deceased loaned Lawrence $850,000 while Lawrence was working for Oppenheimer & Co. FINRA records indicate Lawrence was with Oppenheimer 6/2008-7/2011.
In March 2014, FINRA barred Lawrence, who formerly was registered with Southwest Securities, 8/2011-12/2013, from the industry.

Former Southwest Securities Broker Wade J Lawrence Barred By FINRA-Dallas, TX

UPDATE February 13, 2015– Former investors with Wade J. Lawrence should see this recent posting regarding the investigation of Wade J. Lawrence.

In March 2014 the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority barred Dallas, Texas, broker Wade James Lawrence from the industry.
FINRA findings state that FINRA received a tip alleging that Lawrence misappropriated customer funds. During the course of the investigation regarding the tip, FINRA requested that Lawrence appear and provide on the record testimony. Counsel for Lawrence informed FINRA that he would not appear and provide on the record testimony.
According to FINRA records Lawrence is not currently registered . His previous registration history includes:
8/2011-12/2013                     Southwest Securities, Inc.
6/2008-7/2011                        Oppenheimer & Co.
