Greg McKinney Investigation

July 2022-Tulsa, OK

According to publicly available records James Gregory McKinney a former broker who last worked for Cetera Advisors,  discloses

a final regulatory matter, a pending customer dispute, 7 prior customer disputes and outstanding liens.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is the agency that licenses and regulates stockbrokers and brokerage firms. FINRA requires brokers and brokerage firms to report customer complaints and disputes as well as regulatory sanctions. In addition brokers are required to disclose certain financial matters such as personal bankruptcies, judgments and liens.

In 3/2020 FINRA permanently barred McKinney from the industry to resolve allegations that McKinney failed to comply with FINRA requests for information, documents and on-the-record testimony in connection with an investigation of him for possible violations of FINRA rules.    McKinney had been employed with Cetera Advisors since 1/2013.

From 3/2020 until 11/2020 four Cetera Advisors customers brought claims, alleging, among other things, unsuitable investment recommendations, misrepresentation, recommendations to generate commissions, common law fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and negligence.   These cases settled, collectively, for over $292,000.

In recently filed FINRA case #21-02525, a Cetera Advisors customer allege that McKinney made unsuitable investment recommendations and is seeking damages of $1,000,000.   The case is still pending.

In 2/2018, the State of Oklahoma filed a tax lien against McKinney in Pawnee County Court in the amount of $22,695. This lien is still outstanding.

In 6/2017 the Internal Revenue Service filed a tax lien against McKinney in Federal court in Creek County, Oklahoma in the amount of $622,351.   The lien is still outstanding.
