We are investigating former Merrill Lynch financial advisor Forrest Andrew Jones & a now defunct investment advisory firm Knight Nguyen Investments.
According to publicly available records, Forrest Jones discloses a pending regulatory civil suit, pending customer dispute and a terminations from employment.
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is the agency that licenses and regulates stockbrokers and brokerage firms. FINRA requires brokers and brokerage firms to report customer complaints and disputes as well as regulatory sanctions. In addition brokers are required to disclose certain financial matters such as personal bankruptcies, judgments and liens.
In 5/2021 the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a civil action naming Forrest Jones, Knight Nguyen Investments, Chris Lopez, and Jayson Lopez alleging that they raised $3.7 million in a scheme to invest funds from advisory clients and retail investors in at least five fraudulent securities offerings. The SEC alleges that the victims were mostly unsophisticated investors who were promised high returns from secure, low risk investments. The SEC seeks civil and administrative penalties, disgorgement, injunction and monetary penalties.
In pending FINRA case 10-1561 a customer of Jones prior employer Fortune Financial Services seeks $335,000 and alleges that Jones recommended unsuitable limited partnerships and alternative investments.
Most recently Jones was employed by Merrill Lynch until he was discharged in 10/2020 due to loss of management confidence resulting from a regulatory investigation and conduct including failure to disclose his outside business activities. Jones‘ prior employment includes:
- Fortune Financial Services 5/2018-11/2018
- McNally Financial Services 3/2016-2/2017
- Metlife Securities 8/2014-2/2016
Jones also discloses an affiliation with Knight Nguyen Investments located in Katy, TX, from 2/2017-8/2018. According to SEC records, the firm terminated its Investment Adviser registration 8/2018.
