The Department of Justice announced today that Dorian Garcia, age 31, was sentenced to 6 and one half years in federal prison for a wire fraud scheme that raised more than $8 million from its 111 victims.
Garcia only invested a small percentage of the money raised using money from later investors to pay to earlier investors, giving the impression of a profitable concern. This is a classic Ponzi scheme maneuver. He used a great deal of the money to support a lavish lifestyle that included fancy artwork, a personal chef, luxury cars and dinner parties.
