The FBI announced in a Press Release that Dante S. Giovannetti, 50, of Orlando, Florida, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for wire fraud. He was also ordered to pay over $663,000 in restitution.
Giovannetti raised more than $700,000 from his victims who believed their money would be place in a trading account and used to trade E-mini S&P futures contracts. Instead, Giovannetti did not invest the monies as represented, but rather used much of the money for personal expenses while providing the investors with fake statements showing fictitious profits from trading S&P futures.
Giovannetti fled to Canada after his scheme was discovered and was deported back in January 2015.
