Primera Energy filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas. The filing came a day following an order entered appointing a receiver in a Texas State court proceeding by disgruntled investors against Brian Alfaro, Primera Energy and affiliates alleging fraudulent dealings in oil and gas prospects in the Barnett and Eagle Ford shale plays.
The investors claim in their suit that Alfaro fraudulently raised $40 million and used investor money to support an extravagant lifestyle that included what one of the lawyers for the investors calls a “Jay Leno-esque car collection” .
