In 2012 Lydia Cladek, a then 68 year old businesswoman from St. Augustine, Florida. was sentenced to 30 years on convictions of wire fraud, mail fraud and conspiracy, in connection with a t $50 million ponzi scheme which was touted an opportunity to buy subprime automobile finance contracts from dealers at discounted prices.
Many of Cladek’s victims were older female investors who she cultivated from her church and other social organizations, were attracted by the favorable returns promised by Cladek.
On September 24, 2014, the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit affirmed Cladek’s conviction and sentencing.
