In September 2014, the FInancial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced that two brokers formerly with MetLife Securities, Christopher Bradford Birli of Buffalo, NY, and Patrick Walter Chapin of East Amherst, NY, were barred from the securities industry.
According to FINRA findings, they carried out a scheme together over a 7 year period to circumvent company policy and procedures by submitting false paperwork and using personal emails to communicate with customers and a plan provider. They recommended that customers swap variable annuities and earned hundreds of thousands in commissions to which they were not entitled.
